The Corn Mazes

Adventure Acres has much more than a pumpkin patch.  For instance, they have hayrides, corn cannons and the best corn mazes in the state of Ohio.  There are a total of four mazes that have a combined eight miles of trails that guests can walk through.  The designs of the mazes change every year, so there is always something new to see when you come back the next fall.  If you want to get the best look at the mazes to see what kind of picture or design they have been made into, then you can go to the top of the watchtower to get a top down view of the entire farm.  You will truly be amazed at the attention to detail that is put into each maze.  If you are brave enough to head into the maze, then you can try to get from the start to the finish while solving the various puzzles that are found along the way.  You may even have the opportunity to win some great prizes if you manage to solve the puzzles correctly.

It is clear that creating such elaborate corn mazes does not happen overnight.  To make a truly unique maze, the process has to begin many months in advance.  The process starts around May when the corn is planted.  About 20,000 corn plants are planted for every acre of land.  Any more than this can cause overcrowding in the plants and leave you with a very poor looking maze.  The corn must also be cared for properly as it grows so it reaches the right height of about 10 feet while avoiding any stalk rot.  Sometime around September, the corn will be ready for a maze.  This takes the work of an artist and their creative imagination to come up with an original maze that is also a work of art.  Anything can be cut out into the corn field.  It all depends on how creative a person can be.  They can spell out words or create pictures in the corn that are part of the maze itself.  Adventure Acres corn mazes are more than just a puzzle, they are an amazing sight to behold.

Corn mazes and pumpkin patches aren't the only things to do at Adventure Acres.  If you have ever wanted to shoot ears of corn out of a cannon, then you have come to the right place.  There are two air-powered cannons capable of firing corn up to 500 feet.  Try to hit the target or simply see how far you can get that corn to fly through the air.  After that, you can check out the 2009 Barn of the Year that PBS is planning to do a special on.  As nightfall approaches, you can embark on a haunted hayride through the farm's 63 acres where you may see deer, turkeys or even ghosts!  The ride will take you to a clearing in the woods where you can roast hot dogs and marshmallows around a big bonfire.  But be careful.  The woods may be haunted and you are advised to take the hayride at your own risk.
