Amazing Mazes

When you want the most exiting, challenging and fun corn maze you can find, then Dayton, Ohio is the place you need to travel to.  Here you will find Adventure Acres, the biggest corn maze in the entire state of Ohio.  The 10-foot high corn stalks comprise over eight miles of trails over four different mazes.  You can spend hours navigating through the mazes and completing the challenges and puzzles found within.  To get a real idea of what kind of detail has gone into these mazes, you can climb to the top of the watchtower to get a bird's eye view of all the mazes found on the farm.  You can attempt to find your way through the mazes as fast as you want, or you can attempt to solve the various puzzles that you will encounter along the way.  There is even a chance to win some very nice prizes if you complete these puzzles correctly.

Making the Maze

Many people wonder just how such elaborate mazes are created.  Making such a detailed maze takes a lot of work and preparation.  The process must actually start several months in advance with the planting of the corn.  In order for all the corn to be ready for the opening of a fall maze, it must be planted sometime around the month of May.  When the corn begins to grow, it must be taken care of properly in order to grow to the desired height, usually around 10 feet.  Proper care will also prevent problems like stalk rot from occurring.  Every acre of land should have about 20,000 corn plants.  More than this can cause the corn to become crowded and that can lead to problems when it comes to building a maze.

As soon as the corn has reached the desired height, the maze can begin to be cut out and take shape.  Any pattern, design or picture can be cut into the corn stalks.  It's all up to the creativity, ability and imagination of the person building the maze.  This part of the maze creation process also takes some planning before getting started.  If you go in without a plan, then your maze can end up all over the place without any sense of direction.  A good corn maze is truly a work of art.  Adventure Acres has some of the most unique and complex mazes around.  You will be able to tell just by looking at them that these mazes took a lot of time and effort to create.  They are fun to view as much as they are to navigate.  The corn mazes at Adventure Acres are truly a fun and unique experience.

Adventure Acres Fun

While the corn mazes at Adventure Acres are a blast, there are many more things for people at the farm to enjoy.  The first thing you'll want to see at Adventure Acres is that barn.  This isn't any old barn.  This barn was named 2009 Barn of the Year.  PBS is also planning to do some filming of the barn for a TV special they are producing.  If PBS takes notice, then you know you have a really good barn on your hands.

After you check out the barn, you can make your way to the farm's pumpkin patch.  There are plenty of pumpkins that have been picked that are available for purchase, or you can go out into the patch and find your own pumpkin to take home with you.  The pumpkin patch is fun for kids and adults to wander through and look at all the different pumpkins available.  Whether you want big pumpkins and small ones, the pumpkin patch will have what you are looking for.

With mazes, a barn and a pumpkin patch, you may think your day at Adventure Acres is complete.  Well there is much more to experience during your stay.  Have you ever wondered what it's like to fire an ear of corn 500 feet across a field?  Well if you come to Adventure Acres, you won't have to wonder any longer.  There are two air-powered cannons that visitors can use to shoot corn through the air.  There is a giant target they can try to hit, or they can just go for distance to see how far they can get the corn to fly.  You've never experience corn until you have shot it out of an air-compressed corn cannon.

With the day winding down and nightfall coming, it is a great time to take one of Adventure Acre's hayrides.  The hayrides are one of the most popular attractions at the farm.  Things are even more exciting at night.  Riders are taken back through the woods to an area where they can sit around a bonfire to roast hot dogs and marshmallows.  If you're lucky, you might spot a deer or a wild turkey that tend to roam around the farm's 63 acres.  During October, the hayride is said to be haunted by spooky spirits, so ride at your own risk.  You never know when you might see a ghost.

With so much to do at Adventure Acres, you can have a fun-filled day and evening going through the mazes, shooting corn out of a cannon and taking a haunted hayride.  It's so much fun that people come back every year to experience the excitement all over again.  Once you take a visit to Adventure Acres, you'll want to come back for more.  Hurry to the farm this year before the fall season is over.
