History of Adventure Acres
Have you ever looked at something boring and though, 'I'm sure I could find a way to make this fun?' Well, that's exactly what Adventure Acres founder Ed Martinek and his family thought when they came across the huge property at 784 South Alpha-Bellbrook Road, just outside the Dayton, Ohio suburban neighborhoods of Kettering and Centerville. With a little imagination, a lot of hard work, and a whole lot of inspiration to make a great destination for family fun, Martinek and family created Adventure Acres, which quickly cemented it's reputation as the premiere corn maze in Ohio. Featuring a newly renovated barn that won Ohio's 2009 Barn of the Year award and is soon to be featured on a PBS TV show, as well as almost nine miles of the craziest, coolest mazes you've ever been through. In it's short history, Adventure Acres has constantly been creating new and exciting mazes and experiences which have kept guests coming back over and over to share in the fun and enjoyment of this unique experience.
Activities in Adventure Acres
There is so much to do at Adventure Acres, it's really hard to know where to begin, but how could we start anywhere but with the incredible mazes that await Adventure Acres guests. As we already mentioned, you're looking at four different mazes totaling nearly nine miles of track where you could find yourself lost and not even care because you're having so much fun. The corn field the maze is cut from has corn running around ten feet high, so don't count on jumping up and cheating. Don't worry, if you get too lost and want out, we can easily spot you from our watch tower and get you out of there in no time. Each maze is carved into a unique shape like a giant image of the earth, an airplane like the first plane the Wright Brothers flew, as well as trains and cars as well. It really is something quite amazing, and you can check it out in the photo below. Beyond that, it's not like you just run around in the mazes and that's it. There are a ton of check points, puzzles like Sudoku, and chances to win prizes like a Nintendo Wii all contained right there in the maze.
But, once you've done the mazes, there are still so many more activities right in front of you to get involved with at Adventure Acres. For starters, a fantastic hay ride is available for families or for groups, but beware, because when you get on the hay ride at night, you'll have more than just a fall chill in the air raising the hairs on the back of your neck. Rumor is, the hay ride is haunted by ancient spirits that love to spook hay riders as they get pulled along by the trusty Johnny Popper, our tractor.
Also, taking a walk through our great pumpkin patch is a great way to enjoy the season and to find that perfect Jack-o-lantern for the approaching Halloween holiday. We have a huge selection of great pumpkins every year, though be aware that we can't magically grow them, so it will be subject to weather conditions as far as what our pumpkin selection looks like.
Not quite your speed? Why not have a little fun with some exciting corn cannons!? That's right, I said corn cannons! As the best corn maze in Ohio, where would we be without high powered pressurized air cannons that can fire ears of corn up to 500ft? Fire corn into targets or just start shooting off corn into neighboring fields: it's all up to you!
For the younger kids, we have great activities like our pirate ship playground and our cow train ride that will keep your little ones having fun when you're enjoying Adventure Acres. And for the whole family to enjoy, there are fire pits for camp fires right here on site so that you can enjoy the fun of adventure acres after dark while taking in a little heat from the fire as well.
